Key Findings from the ICCHNR International Roundtable on the Future of Community Nursing (2026)
Across the world, healthcare systems are facing profound and interconnected challenges: ageing populations, rising levels of long-term conditions and multi-morbidity, increasing levels of stress for children and families, widening health inequalities, workforce shortages and increasing financial pressures. At the same time, governments and health systems are seeking to transform care through prevention, earlier intervention, digital innovation and the delivery of more services closer to home.
Community nursing sits at the heart of these ambitions and has never been more important, yet it remains under-recognised, under-invested and under-researched.
ICCHNR Vision Statement:
The International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research (ICCHNR) envisions a world where community health nurses are empowered to drive equitable, just, and inclusive healthcare systems through research, advocacy, and collaboration. We are committed to dismantling systemic injustices in healthcare by fostering inclusivity, diversity, social justice, and accessibility in community health nursing research.
ICCHNR will contribute to the transformation of community health nursing research— so that every nurse is empowered to advocate for change, and every person has the right to quality, compassionate, and just healthcare with the goal of leaving no community behind.
Our Impact
ICCHNR actively contributes to the advancement of community health nursing by championing research that enhances healthcare quality and informs best practices. As a registered charity, we are committed to demonstrating the value of research in improving patient outcomes and influencing public health policies. Our efforts empower community nurses to integrate evidence-based approaches into their practice, strengthening their role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
By promoting education and supporting research dissemination, we help shape the future of community nursing, ensuring that healthcare professionals worldwide are equipped with the knowledge and resources to make a meaningful difference in the communities they serve.
